Private Equity Sponsors

We work with private equity firms and independent sponsors on add-on acquisitions, new platform searches and the sale of portfolio companies. Our sourcing platform gives deal teams proprietary coverage of fragmented markets that conventional deal flow does not reach.

What we hear most often

“Our deal team can’t cover every niche.”
A thesis may require contact with hundreds of small, founder-owned companies. Few deal teams have the capacity to do that alongside live transactions.
“Banked deals are crowded and fully priced.”
Auctions run by intermediaries attract many bidders. Sponsors want more opportunities where they are speaking with an owner before a process begins.
“Add-ons have to fit the platform precisely.”
Geography, capabilities, customer overlap and culture all matter. A long list of loosely relevant companies is of little use.
“The exit needs to be ready when the fund is.”
Portfolio companies need a credible buyer universe and a well-prepared process to achieve the return the investment case assumed.

How we help

Add-on programs

Continuous identification and outreach for a platform’s acquisition strategy, with qualified owner meetings delivered to the deal team and portfolio management.

Platform searches

Market mapping and direct owner outreach in a new sector or sub-sector, to find a first investment that fits the fund’s thesis.

Owner-appropriate positioning

Outreach that explains the sponsor’s approach in terms owners respond to, written and reviewed by our bankers rather than sent as generic messages.

Sell-side exits

Preparation and sale processes for portfolio companies, reaching strategic acquirers and other sponsors across North America and cross-border.

Working together

Working with sponsors

Sponsors build value through disciplined acquisition, and the binding constraint is often sourcing rather than capital. Buy-and-build strategies depend on a steady flow of add-on candidates, many of which are small, founder-owned and absent from standard databases. Finding them, and reaching their owners in a way that leads to a conversation, takes sustained effort.

Our platform is built for that work. LC Scout maps every company that fits the thesis, LC Enrich profiles each one, and LC Outreach manages confidential, personalized contact with owners. Target lists refresh daily, so changes in ownership, leadership or scale are captured as they happen.

How an engagement runs

  • We agree the thesis and screening criteria with the deal team and, for add-ons, with platform management.
  • We tier the target universe and review it with you before outreach begins.
  • Our bankers qualify owner interest and prepare each introduction with background and context.
  • You receive regular reporting on coverage, responses and pipeline status.

Fees for sourcing work are results-based, tied to qualified meetings delivered and to completed transactions.

Exits and portfolio sales

When a portfolio company is ready for sale, we apply the same coverage to the buyer side: strategic acquirers that have been active in the sector, sponsors seeking a platform at the next size range and family offices with longer horizons. We prepare the company alongside its management team and the deal partner, with particular attention to the add-on history, the integration record and the quality of earnings, which buyers of sponsor-owned businesses examine closely.

Sponsors also engage us to approach owners about minority investments or partial sales, where the conversation requires a clear explanation of governance and rollover terms.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work with independent sponsors?

Yes. We work with independent sponsors on platform searches and add-ons, and can help them present their approach credibly to owners.

Can you run add-on outreach for several portfolio companies at once?

Yes. Each program has its own thesis, target universe and reporting, coordinated so that owners are not contacted by more than one of your companies without your intention.

How do you present the sponsor to owners?

As you prefer. Initial outreach usually describes the buyer in general terms, and the sponsor or platform company is named once an owner has expressed interest.

Considering a sale, an acquisition or a recapitalization?

Conversations with Laurent Capital are confidential and carry no obligation. A senior member of the firm responds to every inquiry within one business day.
